May the Lord cut off all flattering lips, And the tongue that speaks proud things,

You shall be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, And you shall not be afraid of destruction when it comes.

“Talk no more so very proudly; Let no arrogance come from your mouth, For the Lord is the God of knowledge; And by Him actions are weighed.

Let the lying lips be put to silence, Which speak insolent things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.

Where no oxen are, the trough is clean; But much increase comes by the strength of an ox.

He who guards his mouth preserves his life, But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.

A fool’s mouth is his destruction, And his lips are the snare of his soul.
