“If I have made gold my hope, Or said to fine gold, ‘You are my confidence’;

Surely every man walks about like a shadow; Surely they busy themselves in vain; He heaps up riches, And does not know who will gather them.

Do not trust in oppression, Nor vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, Do not set your heart on them.

If the thief is found breaking in, and he is struck so that he dies, there shall be no guilt for his bloodshed.

Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death.

How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.

For God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy to a man who is good in His sight; but to the sinner He gives the work of gathering and collecting, that he may give to him who is good before God. This also is vanity and grasping for the wind.

Neither their silver nor their gold Shall be able to deliver them In the day of the Lord’s wrath; But the whole land shall be devoured By the fire of His jealousy, For He will make speedy riddance Of all those who dwell in the land.

Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

“So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys.

But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.

So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

And when Jesus saw that he became very sorrowful, He said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!

Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.

Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
