“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

While the sun and the light, The moon and the stars, Are not darkened, And the clouds do not return after the rain;

For the stars of heaven and their constellations Will not give their light; The sun will be darkened in its going forth, And the moon will not cause its light to shine.

Then the moon will be disgraced And the sun ashamed; For the Lord of hosts will reign On Mount Zion and in Jerusalem And before His elders, gloriously.

All the host of heaven shall be dissolved, And the heavens shall be rolled up like a scroll; All their host shall fall down As the leaf falls from the vine, And as fruit falling from a fig tree.

The earth quakes before them, The heavens tremble; The sun and moon grow dark, And the stars diminish their brightness.

The sun and moon will grow dark, And the stars will diminish their brightness.

Is not the day of the Lord darkness, and not light? Is it not very dark, with no brightness in it?

“And it shall come to pass in that day,” says the Lord God, “That I will make the sun go down at noon, And I will darken the earth in broad daylight;

For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.

All these are the beginning of sorrows.

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

Then the fourth angel sounded: And a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them were darkened. A third of the day did not shine, and likewise the night.
