They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.
But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge.
My son, fear the Lord and the king; Do not associate with those given to change;
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
And they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”
But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men.
Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”
And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?”
And Jesus answered and said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they marveled at Him.
And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
