So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done.

This is the history of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brothers. And the lad was with the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives; and Joseph brought a bad report of them to his father.

“But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’

And he would not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt.

Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me.

And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored as whole as the other.

So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.’

Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,

Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.

To our shame I say that we were too weak for that! But in whatever anyone is bold—I speak foolishly—I am bold also.

Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.

Remember the prisoners as if chained with them—those who are mistreated—since you yourselves are in the body also.
