The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, Slow to anger and great in mercy.

“How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I set you like Zeboiim? My heart churns within Me; My sympathy is stirred.

But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.

They refused to obey, And they were not mindful of Your wonders That You did among them. But they hardened their necks, And in their rebellion They appointed a leader To return to their bondage. But You are God, Ready to pardon, Gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, Abundant in kindness, And did not forsake them.

For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.

So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the Lord. And His soul could no longer endure the misery of Israel.

But He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, And did not destroy them. Yes, many a time He turned His anger away, And did not stir up all His wrath;

“But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’

Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me.

And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me, therefore, which of them will love him more?”

Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have rightly judged.”
