For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.

And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples

But when Herod’s birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod.

Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, He departed to Galilee.

Now King Herod heard of Him, for His name had become well known. And he said, “John the Baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.”

For Herod himself had sent and laid hold of John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife; for he had married her.

Therefore Herodias held it against him and wanted to kill him, but she could not;

And when Herodias’ daughter herself came in and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, “Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”

Then He charged them, saying, “Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”

There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

On that very day some Pharisees came, saying to Him, “Get out and depart from here, for Herod wants to kill You.”

Then Herod, with his men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.

And as soon as he knew that He belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.

Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,

and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance.

Now about that time Herod the king stretched out his hand to harass some from the church.

“For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together
