for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and he protected him. And when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.

And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.

And the chief priests and the scribes that very hour sought to lay hands on Him, but they feared the people —for they knew He had spoken this parable against them.

So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, “Is this not Joseph’s son?”

After these things Jesus walked in Galilee; for He did not want to walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill Him.

Did not Moses give you the law, yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill Me?”

The officers answered, “No man ever spoke like this Man!”

Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, “Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you.”
