But instead, joy and gladness, Slaying oxen and killing sheep, Eating meat and drinking wine: “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!”

Woe to those who rise early in the morning, That they may follow intoxicating drink; Who continue until night, till wine inflames them!

Woe to those who join house to house; They add field to field, Till there is no place Where they may dwell alone in the midst of the land!

“Come,” one says, “I will bring wine, And we will fill ourselves with intoxicating drink; Tomorrow will be as today, And much more abundant.”

And Ephraim said, ‘Surely I have become rich, I have found wealth for myself; In all my labors They shall find in me no iniquity that is sin.’

You who rejoice over Lo Debar, Who say, “Have we not taken Karnaim for ourselves By our own strength?”

Therefore they sacrifice to their net, And burn incense to their dragnet; Because by them their share is sumptuous And their food plentiful.

So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods.

“There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day.

“But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.

If, in the manner of men, I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me? If the dead do not rise, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!”

whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things.

But she who lives in pleasure is dead while she lives.

Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.
