So the men answered her, “Our lives for yours, if none of you tell this business of ours. And it shall be, when the Lord has given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you.”

But Joshua had said to the two men who had spied out the country, “Go into the harlot’s house, and from there bring out the woman and all that she has, as you swore to her.”

So David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead, and said to them, “You are blessed of the Lord, for you have shown this kindness to your lord, to Saul, and have buried him.

And now may the Lord show kindness and truth to you. I also will repay you this kindness, because you have done this thing.

Do they not go astray who devise evil? But mercy and truth belong to those who devise good.

So the commander let the young man depart, and commanded him, “Tell no one that you have revealed these things to me.”
