Then God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?” And he said, “It is right for me to be angry, even to death!”

So Ahab went into his house sullen and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him; for he had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” And he lay down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no food.

You who tear yourself in anger, Shall the earth be forsaken for you? Or shall the rock be removed from its place?

Because there is wrath, beware lest He take you away with one blow; For a large ransom would not help you avoid it.

For wrath kills a foolish man, And envy slays a simple one.

But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he became angry.

But the Lord said, “You have had pity on the plant for which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in a night and perished in a night.

And it happened, when the sun arose, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah’s head, so that he grew faint. Then he wished death for himself, and said, “It is better for me to die than to live.”

Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.”

For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.

In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them.

And it came to pass, when she pestered him daily with her words and pressed him, so that his soul was vexed to death,
