Now because we receive support from the palace, it was not proper for us to see the king’s dishonor; therefore we have sent and informed the king,

But he said, “You are idle! Idle! Therefore you say, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to the Lord.’

And you shall lay on them the quota of bricks which they made before. You shall not reduce it. For they are idle; therefore they cry out, saying, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’

Saying: “When will the New Moon be past, That we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, That we may trade wheat? Making the ephah small and the shekel large, Falsifying the scales by deceit,

“But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’

Now when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys.

So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye?

But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said,

This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.

For some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus had said to him, “Buy those things we need for the feast,” or that he should give something to the poor.

Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little.”
