“Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? He who rebukes God, let him answer it.”

I will say to God, ‘Do not condemn me; Show me why You contend with me.

But I would speak to the Almighty, And I desire to reason with God.

I would present my case before Him, And fill my mouth with arguments.

“As God lives, who has taken away my justice, And the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter,

“Why is light given to him who is in misery, And life to the bitter of soul,

Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, And whom God has hedged in?

But You have become cruel to me; With the strength of Your hand You oppose me.

Oh, that I had one to hear me! Here is my mark. Oh, that the Almighty would answer me, That my Prosecutor had written a book!

Why do you contend with Him? For He does not give an accounting of any of His words.

Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me.

Moreover the Lord answered Job, and said:

Then Job answered the Lord and said:

Am I a sea, or a sea serpent, That You set a guard over me?

If one wished to contend with Him, He could not answer Him one time out of a thousand.

Whatever one is, he has been named already, For it is known that he is man; And he cannot contend with Him who is mightier than he.

With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, And taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, And showed Him the way of understanding?

He is near who justifies Me; Who will contend with Me? Let us stand together. Who is My adversary? Let him come near Me.

I have laid a snare for you; You have indeed been trapped, O Babylon, And you were not aware; You have been found and also caught, Because you have contended against the Lord.

“What do you mean when you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying: ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, And the children’s teeth are set on edge’?

And when they had received it, they complained against the landowner,

Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?

For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
