Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, And whom God has hedged in?
He has fenced up my way, so that I cannot pass; And He has set darkness in my paths.
He has hedged me in so that I cannot get out; He has made my chain heavy.
Why do you say, O Jacob, And speak, O Israel: “My way is hidden from the Lord, And my just claim is passed over by my God”?
“Therefore, behold, I will hedge up your way with thorns, And wall her in, So that she cannot find her paths.
He has blocked my ways with hewn stone; He has made my paths crooked.
You have put away my acquaintances far from me; You have made me an abomination to them; I am shut up, and I cannot get out;
And have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a wide place.
His troops come together And build up their road against me; They encamp all around my tent.
If He breaks a thing down, it cannot be rebuilt; If He imprisons a man, there can be no release.
Know then that God has wronged me, And has surrounded me with His net.
Who rejoice exceedingly, And are glad when they can find the grave?
You put my feet in the stocks, And watch closely all my paths. You set a limit for the soles of my feet.
My eye wastes away because of affliction. Lord, I have called daily upon You; I have stretched out my hands to You.
