But I would speak to the Almighty, And I desire to reason with God.

But oh, that God would speak, And open His lips against you,

Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him. Even so, I will defend my own ways before Him.

Then call, and I will answer; Or let me speak, then You respond to me.

Oh, that I had one to hear me! Here is my mark. Oh, that the Almighty would answer me, That my Prosecutor had written a book!

“Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? He who rebukes God, let him answer it.”

“But as for me, I would seek God, And to God I would commit my cause—

If one wished to contend with Him, He could not answer Him one time out of a thousand.

“Present your case,” says the Lord. “Bring forth your strong reasons,” says the King of Jacob.

Hear, O you mountains, the Lord’s complaint, And you strong foundations of the earth; For the Lord has a complaint against His people, And He will contend with Israel.
