A lamp is despised in the thought of one who is at ease; It is made ready for those whose feet slip.

“But now ask the beasts, and they will teach you; And the birds of the air, and they will tell you;

That you turn your spirit against God, And let such words go out of your mouth?

Yet He filled their houses with good things; But the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

He gives them security, and they rely on it; Yet His eyes are on their ways.

The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covers the faces of its judges. If it is not He, who else could it be?

With Your hand from men, O Lord, From men of the world who have their portion in this life, And whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure. They are satisfied with children, And leave the rest of their possession for their babes.

Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.

I have seen the wicked in great power, And spreading himself like a native green tree.

For I was envious of the boastful, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

When the wicked spring up like grass, And when all the workers of iniquity flourish, It is that they may be destroyed forever.

Righteous are You, O Lord, when I plead with You; Yet let me talk with You about Your judgments. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are those happy who deal so treacherously?

As a cage is full of birds, So their houses are full of deceit. Therefore they have become great and grown rich.

They have grown fat, they are sleek; Yes, they surpass the deeds of the wicked; They do not plead the cause, The cause of the fatherless; Yet they prosper, And the right of the needy they do not defend.

Then his mind changes, and he transgresses; He commits offense, Ascribing this power to his god.”
