“I am one mocked by his friends, Who called on God, and He answered him, The just and blameless who is ridiculed.

The tents of robbers prosper, And those who provoke God are secure— In what God provides by His hand.

I also could speak as you do, If your soul were in my soul’s place. I could heap up words against you, And shake my head at you;

“The light of the wicked indeed goes out, And the flame of his fire does not shine.

Does the wild donkey bray when it has grass, Or does the ox low over its fodder?

Uphold my steps in Your paths, That my footsteps may not slip.

If I say, “My foot slips,” Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up.

The light of the righteous rejoices, But the lamp of the wicked will be put out.

Whoever curses his father or his mother, His lamp will be put out in deep darkness.

Give glory to the Lord your God Before He causes darkness, And before your feet stumble On the dark mountains, And while you are looking for light, He turns it into the shadow of death And makes it dense darkness.

And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’

And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.” ’

Vengeance is Mine, and recompense; Their foot shall slip in due time; For the day of their calamity is at hand, And the things to come hasten upon them.’
