And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die.

As long as my breath is in me, And the breath of God in my nostrils,

For what is the hope of the hypocrite, Though he may gain much, If God takes away his life?

The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

You hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.

You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; And You renew the face of the earth.

For I considered all this in my heart, so that I could declare it all: that the righteous and the wise and their works are in the hand of God. People know neither love nor hatred by anything they see before them.

Thus says God the Lord, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it, Who gives breath to the people on it, And spirit to those who walk on it:

For I will not contend forever, Nor will I always be angry; For the spirit would fail before Me, And the souls which I have made.

And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven. They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.

Then they fell on their faces, and said, “O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and You be angry with all the congregation?”

That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.

for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’
