“Should not the multitude of words be answered? And should a man full of talk be vindicated?

Then Zophar the Naamathite answered and said:

“Should a wise man answer with empty knowledge, And fill himself with the east wind?

Shall words of wind have an end? Or what provokes you that you answer?

“How long till you put an end to words? Gain understanding, and afterward we will speak.

“How long will you speak these things, And the words of your mouth be like a strong wind?

Let not a slanderer be established in the earth; Let evil hunt the violent man to overthrow him.”

In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise.

Walk prudently when you go to the house of God; and draw near to hear rather than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil.

For a dream comes through much activity, And a fool’s voice is known by his many words.

Then certain Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, “What does this babbler want to say?” Others said, “He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods,” because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection.

So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;
