Why do you gad about so much to change your way? Also you shall be ashamed of Egypt as you were ashamed of Assyria.

At the same time King Ahaz sent to the kings of Assyria to help him.

Then they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their expectation and Egypt their glory.

Still our eyes failed us, Watching vainly for our help; In our watching we watched For a nation that could not save us.

We have given our hand to the Egyptians And the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.

You also played the harlot with the Assyrians, because you were insatiable; indeed you played the harlot with them and still were not satisfied.

When they took hold of you with the hand, You broke and tore all their shoulders; When they leaned on you, You broke and made all their backs quiver.”

The idol also shall be carried to Assyria As a present for King Jareb. Ephraim shall receive shame, And Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.

“Ephraim feeds on the wind, And pursues the east wind; He daily increases lies and desolation. Also they make a covenant with the Assyrians, And oil is carried to Egypt.

Assyria shall not save us, We will not ride on horses, Nor will we say anymore to the work of our hands, ‘You are our gods.’ For in You the fatherless finds mercy.”

“When Ephraim saw his sickness, And Judah saw his wound, Then Ephraim went to Assyria And sent to King Jareb; Yet he cannot cure you, Nor heal you of your wound.

“Ephraim also is like a silly dove, without sense— They call to Egypt, They go to Assyria.
