They have made it desolate; Desolate, it mourns to Me; The whole land is made desolate, Because no one takes it to heart.

I will make this city desolate and a hissing; everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss because of all its plagues.

For the land is full of adulterers; For because of a curse the land mourns. The pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up. Their course of life is evil, And their might is not right.

And this whole land shall be a desolation and an astonishment, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

Destruction upon destruction is cried, For the whole land is plundered. Suddenly my tents are plundered, And my curtains in a moment.

For thus says the Lord: “The whole land shall be desolate; Yet I will not make a full end.

For this shall the earth mourn, And the heavens above be black, Because I have spoken. I have purposed and will not relent, Nor will I turn back from it.

Be instructed, O Jerusalem, Lest My soul depart from you; Lest I make you desolate, A land not inhabited.”

I will take up a weeping and wailing for the mountains, And for the dwelling places of the wilderness a lamentation, Because they are burned up, So that no one can pass through; Nor can men hear the voice of the cattle. Both the birds of the heavens and the beasts have fled; They are gone.

“I will make Jerusalem a heap of ruins, a den of jackals. I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant.”

Shall I not punish them for these things?” says the Lord. “Shall I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?”

The field is wasted, The land mourns; For the grain is ruined, The new wine is dried up, The oil fails.

I will bring the land to desolation, and your enemies who dwell in it shall be astonished at it.

“Say to all the people of the land, and to the priests: ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months during those seventy years, did you really fast for Me—for Me?

If you will not hear, And if you will not take it to heart, To give glory to My name,” Says the Lord of hosts, “I will send a curse upon you, And I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have cursed them already, Because you do not take it to heart.

For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.
