Who has taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, Whose merchants are princes, Whose traders are the honorable of the earth?

For he says, ‘Are not my princes altogether kings?

How then will you repel one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put your trust in Egypt for chariots and horsemen?

They will plunder your riches and pillage your merchandise; they will break down your walls and destroy your pleasant houses; they will lay your stones, your timber, and your soil in the midst of the water.

You have multiplied your merchants more than the stars of heaven. The locust plunders and flies away.

For Tyre built herself a tower, Heaped up silver like the dust, And gold like the mire of the streets.

The light of a lamp shall not shine in you anymore, and the voice of bridegroom and bride shall not be heard in you anymore. For your merchants were the great men of the earth, for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived.

Therefore her plagues will come in one day—death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges her.
