Then they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their expectation and Egypt their glory.

Now look! You are trusting in the staff of this broken reed, Egypt, on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.

Sever yourselves from such a man, Whose breath is in his nostrils; For of what account is he?

Therefore the strength of Pharaoh Shall be your shame, And trust in the shadow of Egypt Shall be your humiliation.

They were all ashamed of a people who could not benefit them, Or be help or benefit, But a shame and also a reproach.”

For the Egyptians shall help in vain and to no purpose. Therefore I have called her Rahab-Hem-Shebeth.

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, And rely on horses, Who trust in chariots because they are many, And in horsemen because they are very strong, But who do not look to the Holy One of Israel, Nor seek the Lord!

Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the Lord.

The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, says: “Behold, I will bring punishment on Amon of No, and Pharaoh and Egypt, with their gods and their kings—Pharaoh and those who trust in him.

No longer shall it be the confidence of the house of Israel, but will remind them of their iniquity when they turned to follow them. Then they shall know that I am the Lord God.” ’ ”

Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, And it was boundless; Put and Lubim were your helpers.

“You Ethiopians also, You shall be slain by My sword.”

Therefore let no one boast in men. For all things are yours:
