therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken.

Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

And he called his name Noah, saying, “This one will comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord has cursed.”

These three were the sons of Noah, and from these the whole earth was populated.

Then he drank of the wine and was drunk, and became uncovered in his tent.

The mouth of the righteous is a well of life, But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

He who tills his land will be satisfied with bread, But he who follows frivolity is devoid of understanding.

I went by the field of the lazy man, And by the vineyard of the man devoid of understanding;

Moreover the profit of the land is for all; even the king is served from the field.

Do not look upon me, because I am dark, Because the sun has tanned me. My mother’s sons were angry with me; They made me the keeper of the vineyards, But my own vineyard I have not kept.

Who ever goes to war at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? Or who tends a flock and does not drink of the milk of the flock?

Also what man is there who has planted a vineyard and has not eaten of it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man eat of it.

“You shall betroth a wife, but another man shall lie with her; you shall build a house, but you shall not dwell in it; you shall plant a vineyard, but shall not gather its grapes.
