But he said, “My son shall not go down with you, for his brother is dead, and he is left alone. If any calamity should befall him along the way in which you go, then you would bring down my gray hair with sorrow to the grave.”

And we said to my lord, ‘We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, who is young; his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother’s children, and his father loves him.’

And we said to my lord, ‘The lad cannot leave his father, for if he should leave his father, his father would die.’

Therefore do according to your wisdom, and do not let his gray hair go down to the grave in peace.

He leaves a shining wake behind him; One would think the deep had white hair.

Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me, Until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to everyone who is to come.

The days of our lives are seventy years; And if by reason of strength they are eighty years, Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

For God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy to a man who is good in His sight; but to the sinner He gives the work of gathering and collecting, that he may give to him who is good before God. This also is vanity and grasping for the wind.

I said, “In the prime of my life I shall go to the gates of Sheol; I am deprived of the remainder of my years.”

Even to your old age, I am He, And even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; Even I will carry, and will deliver you.
