Genesis 41:51

Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: “For God has made me forget all my toil and all my father’s house.”

but after them seven years of famine will arise, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine will deplete the land.

And to Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, whom Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah priest of On, bore to him.

And the name of the second he called Ephraim: “For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.”

Now it came to pass after these things that Joseph was told, “Indeed your father is sick”; and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

And now your two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.

Because you would forget your misery, And remember it as waters that have passed away,

You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness,

For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.

Listen, O daughter, Consider and incline your ear; Forget your own people also, and your father’s house;

Let him drink and forget his poverty, And remember his misery no more.

For I will not contend forever, Nor will I always be angry; For the spirit would fail before Me, And the souls which I have made.

So that he who blesses himself in the earth Shall bless himself in the God of truth; And he who swears in the earth Shall swear by the God of truth; Because the former troubles are forgotten, And because they are hidden from My eyes.

The sons of Joseph according to their families, by Manasseh and Ephraim, were:

His glory is like a firstborn bull, And his horns like the horns of the wild ox; Together with them He shall push the peoples To the ends of the earth; They are the ten thousands of Ephraim, And they are the thousands of Manasseh.”

For the children of Joseph were two tribes: Manasseh and Ephraim. And they gave no part to the Levites in the land, except cities to dwell in, with their common-lands for their livestock and their property.

There was also a lot for the tribe of Manasseh, for he was the firstborn of Joseph: namely for Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, because he was a man of war; therefore he was given Gilead and Bashan.

So it came to pass in the process of time that Hannah conceived and bore a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked for him from the Lord.”
