And they sat down to eat a meal. Then they lifted their eyes and looked, and there was a company of Ishmaelites, coming from Gilead with their camels, bearing spices, balm, and myrrh, on their way to carry them down to Egypt.

So he fled with all that he had. He arose and crossed the river, and headed toward the mountains of Gilead.

Then he took his brethren with him and pursued him for seven days’ journey, and he overtook him in the mountains of Gilead.

Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call on the Lord?

“Go up to Gilead and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt; In vain you will use many medicines; You shall not be cured.

Is there no balm in Gilead, Is there no physician there? Why then is there no recovery For the health of the daughter of my people?

“On the east side you shall mark out the border from between Hauran and Damascus, and between Gilead and the land of Israel, along the Jordan, and along the eastern side of the sea. This is the east side.

Who lie on beds of ivory, Stretch out on your couches, Eat lambs from the flock And calves from the midst of the stall;

Who drink wine from bowls, And anoint yourselves with the best ointments, But are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, all Mount Hermon, and all Bashan as far as Salcah;
