And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, scoffing.

Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. And she had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar.

So Hagar bore Abram a son; and Abram named his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.

And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall beget twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.

So the child grew and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the same day that Isaac was weaned.

So the runners passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh, as far as Zebulun; but they laughed at them and mocked them.

But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against His people, till there was no remedy.

Even a child is known by his deeds, Whether what he does is pure and right.

Cast out the scoffer, and contention will leave; Yes, strife and reproach will cease.

In the days of her affliction and roaming, Jerusalem remembers all her pleasant things That she had in the days of old. When her people fell into the hand of the enemy, With no one to help her, The adversaries saw her And mocked at her downfall.

For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman.

But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now.

Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment.
