“When you take the census of the children of Israel for their number, then every man shall give a ransom for himself to the Lord, when you number them, that there may be no plague among them when you number them.

And they made a proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem to bring to the Lord the collection that Moses the servant of God had imposed on Israel in the wilderness.

Then He is gracious to him, and says, ‘Deliver him from going down to the Pit; I have found a ransom’;

Because there is wrath, beware lest He take you away with one blow; For a large ransom would not help you avoid it.

None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him—

Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

and they said to Moses, “Your servants have taken a count of the men of war who are under our command, and not a man of us is missing.

Therefore we have brought an offering for the Lord, what every man found of ornaments of gold: armlets and bracelets and signet rings and earrings and necklaces, to make atonement for ourselves before the Lord.”
