So Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, “Every son who is born you shall cast into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.”

Then it came to pass, at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh had a dream; and behold, he stood by the river.

He turned their heart to hate His people, To deal craftily with His servants.

and he said, “When you do the duties of a midwife for the Hebrew women, and see them on the birthstools, if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.”

And when she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So she had compassion on him, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”

For their feet run to evil, And they make haste to shed blood.

Wrath is cruel and anger a torrent, But who is able to stand before jealousy?

For they do not sleep unless they have done evil; And their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall.

This man dealt treacherously with our people, and oppressed our forefathers, making them expose their babies, so that they might not live.

By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s command.
