So Haman went out that day joyful and with a glad heart; but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, and that he did not stand or tremble before him, he was filled with indignation against Mordecai.

So Ahab went into his house sullen and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him; for he had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” And he lay down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no food.

He said to her, “Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite, and said to him, ‘Give me your vineyard for money; or else, if it pleases you, I will give you another vineyard for it.’ And he answered, ‘I will not give you my vineyard.’ ”

When virgins were gathered together a second time, Mordecai sat within the king’s gate.

And all the king’s servants who were within the king’s gate bowed and paid homage to Haman, for so the king had commanded concerning him. But Mordecai would not bow or pay homage.

When Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow or pay him homage, Haman was filled with wrath.

Yet all this avails me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.”

That the triumphing of the wicked is short, And the joy of the hypocrite is but for a moment?

If the men of my tent have not said, ‘Who is there that has not been satisfied with his meat?’

In whose eyes a vile person is despised, But he honors those who fear the Lord; He who swears to his own hurt and does not change;

Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident.

Then Nebuchadnezzar, in rage and fury, gave the command to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. So they brought these men before the king.

And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.

Woe to you who are full, For you shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, For you shall mourn and weep.

Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.

When they heard these things they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.

Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.
