then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’

If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, And because my hand had gained much;

For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword, Nor did their own arm save them; But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance, Because You favored them.

“If you should say in your heart, ‘These nations are greater than I; how can I dispossess them?’—

The Lord makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and lifts up.

But David said, “My brethren, you shall not do so with what the Lord has given us, who has preserved us and delivered into our hand the troop that came against us.
