Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution.

The blessing of a perishing man came upon me, And I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.

“If I have kept the poor from their desire, Or caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

Your people shall be volunteers In the day of Your power; In the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning, You have the dew of Your youth.

There will be an abundance of grain in the earth, On the top of the mountains; Its fruit shall wave like Lebanon; And those of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.

Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow.

Those who come He shall cause to take root in Jacob; Israel shall blossom and bud, And fill the face of the world with fruit.

Then out of them shall proceed thanksgiving And the voice of those who make merry; I will multiply them, and they shall not diminish; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.

In you they have made light of father and mother; in your midst they have oppressed the stranger; in you they have mistreated the fatherless and the widow.

And I will come near you for judgment; I will be a swift witness Against sorcerers, Against adulterers, Against perjurers, Against those who exploit wage earners and widows and orphans, And against those who turn away an alien— Because they do not fear Me,” Says the Lord of hosts.

“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

But some of them were men from Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Hellenists, preaching the Lord Jesus.

And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

Then the disciples, each according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren dwelling in Judea.

Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.

and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.

praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need.

However, many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.

And believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women,

saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!”

Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables.

Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith.

And he spoke boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus and disputed against the Hellenists, but they attempted to kill him.

Then Peter arose and went with them. When he had come, they brought him to the upper room. And all the widows stood by him weeping, showing the tunics and garments which Dorcas had made while she was with them.

Then he gave her his hand and lifted her up; and when he had called the saints and widows, he presented her alive.

or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching;

nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? So am I.

“When you have finished laying aside all the tithe of your increase in the third year—the year of tithing—and have given it to the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, so that they may eat within your gates and be filled,

circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee;

Honor widows who are really widows.

Do not let a widow under sixty years old be taken into the number, and not unless she has been the wife of one man,

Let brotherly love continue.

Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”?

Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door!
