Then Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, “Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Please, let me go over and take off his head!”

And David said, “What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should be adversaries to me today? Shall any man be put to death today in Israel? For do I not know that today I am king over Israel?”

So Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner, because he had killed their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle.

Then Abner became very angry at the words of Ishbosheth, and said, “Am I a dog’s head that belongs to Judah? Today I show loyalty to the house of Saul your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not delivered you into the hand of David; and you charge me today with a fault concerning this woman?

Then he bowed himself, and said, “What is your servant, that you should look upon such a dead dog as I?”

“You shall not revile God, nor curse a ruler of your people.

And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?”

Then Paul said, “I did not know, brethren, that he was the high priest; for it is written, ‘You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.’ ”

Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

After whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom do you pursue? A dead dog? A flea?
