He took away the foreign gods and the idol from the house of the Lord, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the Lord and in Jerusalem; and he cast them out of the city.

Yet I have chosen Jerusalem, that My name may be there, and I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.’

Then the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him: “I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice.

For now I have chosen and sanctified this house, that My name may be there forever; and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.

then I will uproot them from My land which I have given them; and this house which I have sanctified for My name I will cast out of My sight, and will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

but if you return to Me, and keep My commandments and do them, though some of you were cast out to the farthest part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and bring them to the place which I have chosen as a dwelling for My name.’

Remember Your congregation, which You have purchased of old, The tribe of Your inheritance, which You have redeemed— This Mount Zion where You have dwelt.

For they provoked Him to anger with their high places, And moved Him to jealousy with their carved images.

But they set their abominations in the house which is called by My name, to defile it.

For the children of Judah have done evil in My sight,” says the Lord. “They have set their abominations in the house which is called by My name, to pollute it.

Moreover they have done this to Me: They have defiled My sanctuary on the same day and profaned My Sabbaths.

“You shall not plant for yourself any tree, as a wooden image, near the altar which you build for yourself to the Lord your God.
