The Lord was with him; he prospered wherever he went. And he rebelled against the king of Assyria and did not serve him.

So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria, saying, “I am your servant and your son. Come up and save me from the hand of the king of Syria and from the hand of the king of Israel, who rise up against me.”

So the Lord was with Judah. And they drove out the mountaineers, but they could not drive out the inhabitants of the lowland, because they had chariots of iron.

Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against him; and Hoshea became his vassal, and paid him tribute money.
