It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household!

When they had come, they said to Him, “Teacher, we know that You are true, and care about no one; for You do not regard the person of men, but teach the way of God in truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?

And there was much complaining among the people concerning Him. Some said, “He is good”; others said, “No, on the contrary, He deceives the people.”

And they said, “Cornelius the centurion, a just man, one who fears God and has a good reputation among all the nation of the Jews, was divinely instructed by a holy angel to summon you to his house, and to hear words from you.”

Then they came and pleaded with them and brought them out, and asked them to depart from the city.

“Then a certain Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good testimony with all the Jews who dwelt there,

For we have found this man a plague, a creator of dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

But we desire to hear from you what you think; for concerning this sect, we know that it is spoken against everywhere.”

So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way of punishing them, because of the people, since they all glorified God for what had been done.

Yet none of the rest dared join them, but the people esteemed them highly.

Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business;

And why not say, “Let us do evil that good may come”?—as we are slanderously reported and as some affirm that we say. Their condemnation is just.

But as God is faithful, our word to you was not Yes and No.

To our shame I say that we were too weak for that! But in whatever anyone is bold—I speak foolishly—I am bold also.

But be that as it may, I did not burden you. Nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you by cunning!

But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

For our exhortation did not come from error or uncleanness, nor was it in deceit.

Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.

Therefore let us go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach.

If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.

Demetrius has a good testimony from all, and from the truth itself. And we also bear witness, and you know that our testimony is true.

Indeed I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but lie—indeed I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you.
