So he brought them before the king of Moab, and they dwelt with him all the time that David was in the stronghold.

Now when David arose in the morning, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying,

Then he defeated Moab. Forcing them down to the ground, he measured them off with a line. With two lines he measured off those to be put to death, and with one full line those to be kept alive. So the Moabites became David’s servants, and brought tribute.

David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.

Then some of the sons of Benjamin and Judah came to David at the stronghold.

Then the Lord spoke to Gad, David’s seer, saying,

Now the acts of King David, first and last, indeed they are written in the book of Samuel the seer, in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the book of Gad the seer,

And he stationed the Levites in the house of the Lord with cymbals, with stringed instruments, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, of Gad the king’s seer, and of Nathan the prophet; for thus was the commandment of the Lord by His prophets.

And I said, “Should such a man as I flee? And who is there such as I who would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in!”

In the Lord I put my trust; How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain”?

When they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

Then David went from there to Mizpah of Moab; and he said to the king of Moab, “Please let my father and mother come here with you, till I know what God will do for me.”

Now the prophet Gad said to David, “Do not stay in the stronghold; depart, and go to the land of Judah.” So David departed and went into the forest of Hereth.
