So David’s anger was greatly aroused against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the Lord lives, the man who has done this shall surely die!

And the king said to Joab, “All right, I have granted this thing. Go therefore, bring back the young man Absalom.”

All things come alike to all: One event happens to the righteous and the wicked; To the good, the clean, and the unclean; To him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice. As is the good, so is the sinner; He who takes an oath as he who fears an oath.

And the men of Israel were distressed that day, for Saul had placed the people under oath, saying, “Cursed is the man who eats any food until evening, before I have taken vengeance on my enemies.” So none of the people tasted food.

Then he said to all Israel, “You be on one side, and my son Jonathan and I will be on the other side.” And the people said to Saul, “Do what seems good to you.”

Saul answered, “God do so and more also; for you shall surely die, Jonathan.”

So Saul heeded the voice of Jonathan, and Saul swore, “As the Lord lives, he shall not be killed.”

For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, you shall not be established, nor your kingdom. Now therefore, send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die.”

And the king said, “You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father’s house!”

And Saul swore to her by the Lord, saying, “As the Lord lives, no punishment shall come upon you for this thing.”
