For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God.

And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so?

Then some began to spit on Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him, and to say to Him, “Prophesy!” And the officers struck Him with the palms of their hands.

“But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.

To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are poorly clothed, and beaten, and homeless.

But it is good to be zealous in a good thing always, and not only when I am present with you.

Indeed I have all and abound. I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things sent from you, a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God.

For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully.

But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.”

For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
