Now it came to pass, when David was dwelling in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under tent curtains.”

Then the Lord sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him: “There were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor.

and He sent word by the hand of Nathan the prophet: So he called his name Jedidiah, because of the Lord.

So they brought the ark of the Lord, and set it in its place in the midst of the tabernacle that David had erected for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.

Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a temple for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, with masons and carpenters, to build him a house.

David built houses for himself in the City of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched a tent for it.

So they brought the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tabernacle that David had erected for it. Then they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.

Then Nathan said to David, “Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you.”

For I have not dwelt in a house since the time that I brought up Israel, even to this day, but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.

Then he called for his son Solomon, and charged him to build a house for the Lord God of Israel.

And David said to Solomon: “My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build a house to the name of the Lord my God;

Then King David rose to his feet and said, “Hear me, my brethren and my people: I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and for the footstool of our God, and had made preparations to build it.

Now the acts of King David, first and last, indeed they are written in the book of Samuel the seer, in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the book of Gad the seer,

But David had brought up the ark of God from Kirjath Jearim to the place David had prepared for it, for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem.

Until I find a place for the Lord, A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

“Moreover you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine woven linen and blue, purple, and scarlet thread; with artistic designs of cherubim you shall weave them.

“Shall you reign because you enclose yourself in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink, And do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him.

I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace.

“Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins?”

“You looked for much, but indeed it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says the Lord of hosts. “Because of My house that is in ruins, while every one of you runs to his own house.

who found favor before God and asked to find a dwelling for the God of Jacob.
