Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved.

Not that I accept human testimony; but I mention it that you may be saved.

Should good be repaid with evil? Yet they have dug a pit for me. Remember that I stood before you and spoke in their behalf to turn your wrath away from them.

Until the day Samuel died, he did not go to see Saul again, though Samuel mourned for him. And the Lord regretted that he had made Saul king over Israel.

“I regret that I have made Saul king, because he has turned away from me and has not carried out my instructions.” Samuel was angry, and he cried out to the Lord all that night.

Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation.”

As it is written: “See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who believes in him will never be put to shame.”

For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge.
