David said to Solomon: “My son, I had it in my heart to build a house for the Name of the Lord my God.

Those who are at ease have contempt for misfortune as the fate of those whose feet are slipping.

“Is my complaint directed to a human being? Why should I not be impatient?

For you, Lord, have delivered me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling,

As for me, I will be vindicated and will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.

My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not stumbled.

Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth and humbled myself with fasting. When my prayers returned to me unanswered,

For I said, “Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my feet slip.”

But I, by your great love, can come into your house; in reverence I bow down toward your holy temple.

When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.

And I was soon in serious trouble in the assembly of God’s people.”

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right.

He will guard the feet of his faithful servants, but the wicked will be silenced in the place of darkness. “It is not by strength that one prevails;
