I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God.

My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”

All my longings lie open before you, Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you.

My eyes fail from weeping, I am in torment within; my heart is poured out on the ground because my people are destroyed, because children and infants faint in the streets of the city.

“This is why I weep and my eyes overflow with tears. No one is near to comfort me, no one to restore my spirit. My children are destitute because the enemy has prevailed.”

Bitterly she weeps at night, tears are on her cheeks. Among all her lovers there is no one to comfort her. All her friends have betrayed her; they have become her enemies.

“Even today my complaint is bitter; his hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.

My intercessor is my friend as my eyes pour out tears to God;

so I have been allotted months of futility, and nights of misery have been assigned to me.

As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.

“Speak this word to them: “ ‘Let my eyes overflow with tears night and day without ceasing; for the Virgin Daughter, my people, has suffered a grievous wound, a crushing blow.

my eyes are dim with grief. I call to you, Lord, every day; I spread out my hands to you.

“Hear my prayer, Lord, listen to my cry for help; do not be deaf to my weeping. I dwell with you as a foreigner, a stranger, as all my ancestors were.

“I loathe my very life; therefore I will give free rein to my complaint and speak out in the bitterness of my soul.

Hear, Lord, and be merciful to me; Lord, be my help.”

Is your love declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Destruction?

It is not the dead who praise the Lord, those who go down to the place of silence;

For the grave cannot praise you, death cannot sing your praise; those who go down to the pit cannot hope for your faithfulness.
