Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah.

The people of Judah came together to seek help from the Lord; indeed, they came from every town in Judah to seek him.

The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?

All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal.

And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.

I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your unfailing love and your faithfulness, for you have so exalted your solemn decree that it surpasses your fame.

So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.
