Though I am lowly and despised, I do not forget your precepts.

Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law.

I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.

I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands.

But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by everyone, despised by the people.

But as for me, I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; you are my God, do not delay.

Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil.

Better a little with righteousness than much gain with injustice.

Better the poor whose walk is blameless than a fool whose lips are perverse.

My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart,

He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.

Looking at his disciples, he said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.

Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?
