So Moses, Aaron and the leaders of Israel counted all the Levites by their clans and families.
The Levites thirty years old or more were counted, and the total number of men was thirty-eight thousand.
And they distributed to the priests enrolled by their families in the genealogical records and likewise to the Levites twenty years old or more, according to their responsibilities and their divisions.
This was the total of those in the Merarite clans. Moses and Aaron counted them according to the Lord’s command through Moses.
All the men from thirty to fifty years of age who came to do the work of serving and carrying the tent of meeting
