Numbers 11:18

New International Version

“Tell the people: ‘Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow, when you will eat meat. The Lord heard you when you wailed, “If only we had meat to eat! We were better off in Egypt!” Now the Lord will give you meat, and you will eat it.

And the Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Have them wash their clothes

Then he said to the people, “Prepare yourselves for the third day. Abstain from sexual relations.”

Even the priests, who approach the Lord, must consecrate themselves, or the Lord will break out against them.”

Now the people complained about their hardships in the hearing of the Lord, and when he heard them his anger was aroused. Then fire from the Lord burned among them and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp.

You will not eat it for just one day, or two days, or five, ten or twenty days,

“But our ancestors refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.

“Go, consecrate the people. Tell them, ‘Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow; for this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: There are devoted things among you, Israel. You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove them.

The people went to Bethel, where they sat before God until evening, raising their voices and weeping bitterly.
