When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless.

Nevertheless, each national group made its own gods in the several towns where they settled, and set them up in the shrines the people of Samaria had made at the high places.

To this day they persist in their former practices. They neither worship the Lord nor adhere to the decrees and regulations, the laws and commands that the Lord gave the descendants of Jacob, whom he named Israel.

Now this I know: The Lord gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand.

For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.

I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign Lord; I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone.

Come, descendants of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the Lord.

Lord our God, other lords besides you have ruled over us, but your name alone do we honor.

Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.

I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire them to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me.

I will strengthen them in the Lord and in his name they will live securely,” declares the Lord.

In the past, he let all nations go their own way.

Obey the Lord your God and follow his commands and decrees that I give you today.”

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him,

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
