We are given no signs from God; no prophets are left, and none of us knows how long this will be.

The Lord has brought over you a deep sleep: He has sealed your eyes (the prophets); he has covered your heads (the seers).

They say to the seers, “See no more visions!” and to the prophets, “Give us no more visions of what is right! Tell us pleasant things, prophesy illusions.

“Son of man, set your face toward the south; preach against the south and prophesy against the forest of the southland.

“Son of man, set your face against Jerusalem and preach against the sanctuary. Prophesy against the land of Israel

I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you will be silent and unable to rebuke them, for they are a rebellious people.

“But you made the Nazirites drink wine and commanded the prophets not to prophesy.

Therefore night will come over you, without visions, and darkness, without divination. The sun will set for the prophets, and the day will go dark for them.

You have observed the statutes of Omri and all the practices of Ahab’s house; you have followed their traditions. Therefore I will give you over to ruin and your people to derision; you will bear the scorn of the nations.”

But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name.”

“We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name,” he said. “Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood.”

His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

“You stiff-necked people! Your hearts and ears are still uncircumcised. You are just like your ancestors: You always resist the Holy Spirit!
